Doxycycline is a broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic that treats a wide range of bacterial infections. It's one of the most commonly prescribed antibiotics in the US.
Common uses
Doctors prescribe doxycycline for:

- Respiratory infections like pneumonia and bronchitis
- Urinary tract infections
- Sexually transmitted infections including chlamydia and gonorrhoea

How it works
Doxycycline stops bacteria from making proteins they need to survive and reproduce. It's effective against many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
